GHS Tech Teacher of the Week

GHS Tech Teachers of the Week!!!!

September 17-21: Allison Butterfield

Allison used an Ipad app called "Leaf Snap" to enhance and engage students at a new level in an annual fall Leaf Project she has done in her Biology classes. For more information on Leaf Snap, you can visit http://leafsnap.com/ . Congrats, Allison, for being our first ever "Tech Teacher of the Week."

September 24-28: Paul Koplitz

Paul made plans to be the first teacher at GHS to use the COWS (Computers on Wheels) for a project that he began doing last year with students in his History of Rock & Roll Class. Students constructed Prezis on an artist of their choice, which allowed them to even seamlessly involve picture and video conent. This has turned out to be an outstanding project using digital technology. Awesome job, Paul!

October 1-5: Jodi Warner

Jodi was the first teacher to use the "Tech Integration" request form on this site! She has requested help with website design which will allow students to access course materials, videos, etc. in a convenient, 21st century friendly location. Kudos to Jodi for making this effort & congrats on being the GHS Tech Teacher of the Week!

October 8-12: Ryan Wright

Ryan has asked for help with technology and I'm proud of him on this day!! In all seriousness, Ryan would like to have an online location where students may submit revisions and final drafts of assignments and course materials they are creating in his Research Writing class. Ryan is working with me during this week and we will continue into the future to develop a Schoology page specific to his Research Writing class that will facilitate his needs.

October 22-26: Kristi Breitling-Gray

Kristi is working collaboratively with me on a project designed to increase student engagement in regard to the elections on November 6. Her 9th grade students have been using Google Docs, Schoology ,and various relevant websites to research a number of races ranging from local to state and national. As a result of the work of her and her students, we will have websites designed by students in my Social Tech class which will be available for students and staff prior to Election Day.

October 29-November 2: Jason Thurm

Mr. Thurm has developed a Google Form he is using regularly in his choir program to help evaluate students quickly and consistently. His form compiles informtion for him in an easy to view manner that allows him to keep data where it is quicky acessible for him to use for his own assessment or to share with students. Mr. Grotjohn has also begun to use the same form with band students, so it is catching on!!!

November 5-9: Vickie Azure

Mrs. Azure has previously tried new technology in her Special Education courses this fall, with the most significant new technology being Schoology. With my assistance, Vickie had her students complete a traditional writing assignment and "submit" it for her to grade and provide feedback entirely online. Although not everything worked perfectly the first time through, Vickie is commended for attempting something new and using Schoology!

November 26-30: No Submissions and No Selection

December 3-7: Jo Norby-Davis

In addition to other members of the Greenway delegation to the TIES Conference in Minneapolis on December 10 & 11, Jo has been increasingly innovative with technology throughout the 2012-13 school year to this point. In addition to digitizing her curriculum to teach Calculus via telepresence, Jo has been actively searching for online or digital tools, such as games, to engage GHS students in rigourous math education. Congrats, Jo!

2013!!  January 2-4: Annette Adler

Not only did Annette participate as a member of our Greenway delegation at the TIES Conference, but she has been working to implement technology tools and strategies with students receiving remediation and extra help this school year. In particular, Annette's interest in finding online games and websites that "make learning fun", such as www.freerice.com, is something she has worked developed more during the  current school year. Congrats, Annetter & keep up the good work!

January 7-11: Kristina Barton

Kristina has been doing an excellent job of using both the Educreations App and Reflections to mirror her work and student work on Ipads in her math classes. From multiple discussions, this has been a positive addition to Kristina's past and continued use of SMART softwares in teaching    7-8 grade math. Awesome job, Kristina

January 14-18: Renee Gibbons

Renee has been having her students film themselves throughout her Spanish courses this year as they have learned new concepts and vocabulary. This has been so successful that Renee has even compiled the evidence of her student's work in her very own YouTube channel. Search for it at "Spanishgreenway" on YouTube, or follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/channels?q=spanishgreenway

Great job, Senora!!!

January 28-February 1: James Earley

James took time during his prep hour this week to work on applications of Ipads in his math classroom. We were able to explore Geometer's Sketchpad in app form and uses of lines measurements all the way to games for calculating slope. James is FIRED UP for technology in Math now and is planning to continue the search for more ways to use the Math department Ipads in class! Great job, Mr. Earley

February 20-22: Allison Butterfield

Mrs. Butterfield has won AGAIN!! She is to be commended for her work in integrating Quizlet into her classes. The Quizlet app, as she demonstrated in my abscence, is useful for having students assess themselves with vocabulary and course content. The app would also prove functional for teachers wishing to assess students in a more traditional format. Thanks, Mrs. B!!

March 4-8: Diane Levar

Mrs. Levar is the first person in Greenway High School to offer a fully-blended course. Her digital photography class, available online to Infinity students, is also being used for project based learning with her photography students here at GHS on a day to day basis. The course is a great storehouse of information for students, including all of her course readings, assignments, activities, assessments, etc. If you have a chance, stop by and visit with Mrs. Levar regarding her great work!!

April 1-5: Dave Dimich

In an effort to recognize all of the staff who have made efforts to integrate technology to benefit and engage Greenway students, this recognition is long overdue. For Mr. Dimich, who fully embraced the challenge to create videos for registration this year, his work in trying new technology made a difference for students who needed an opportunity to review instructions and guidelines for registration for 2013-14. Great job, Mr. Dimich, making your videos utilizing your Ipad earlier this year!!
